Mr Alex Hall

Alex started his schooling in Zimbabwe and then continued in the Eastern Cape. He completed the majority of his school education at Dale College in King William’s Town where he returned to teach for two years after receiving his degree in primary school education from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. After marrying Rosemary, whom he met at university, Alex wanted to relocate to Port Elizabeth and accepted his first Independent School position as a Grade 5 teacher at St George’s Preparatory in 1998.

Alex’s next position was at Woodridge Preparatory School where he finished his ten years there as the Director of Sport. At this stage he had two sons, James and Jonathan, who were of school going age and the Hall family moved to Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal. Alex was appointed as the Housemaster at Cordwalles Preparatory School for Boys and was instrumental in reviving the boarding house to close to 70 boys during his four years there. To his own acknowledgement, this was a period of wonderful professional growth for him and it led to his appointment as Deputy Headmaster at Uplands Preparatory School in White River, Mpumalanga. Whilst his time at Uplands was relatively short, he could not ignore the lure of the coast and re-joined St George’s Preparatory School, this time as the Campus Head where he served for just short of seven years.

Alex is very excited to be joining Rhenish Primary and beginning a new chapter here in the Western Cape and Stellenbosch in particular. He cannot wait to explore the area and as an avid camper is happiest spending time with his family around a fire and discovering more of our beautiful countryside.

Alex is passionate about contemporary and relevant education that best prepares pupils for a future where change seems to be the only constant. 21st century learning has almost become cliché and the type of educational reform required for the future really does need to align to the skill sets required by the new work place, to add both value and purpose to the careers our pupils will one day be facing. He has been involved in the integration and roll out of technology, in particularly iPads and Google Apps for Education in three of his previous schools. His interest in Hurtful Behaviour and specifically Cyber Bullying, has led to a personal crusade to guide parents and pupils on how to best deal with these challenges. He is passionate about nurturing pupils’ ethics and values which will one day allow them to be the kind of leaders who will strive for positive change. Most importantly though, Alex firmly supports Aristotle’s notion, “Education of the mind without education of the heart is no education at all.”
